James Lewis received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, graduating with honors (cum laude), from the University
of California, Santa Barbara in 1997. He then received his law degree from McGeorge School of Law, where he was a
writer and editor for the McGeorge Initiative Review Project. During his second year of law school, James
worked as a law clerk for the Office of the United States Attorney, Eastern District of California. He also worked as a
law clerk for a statewide personal injury law firm and began his training in handling personal injury cases. In 2001,
James joined the firm of Brayton Purcell, a plaintiffs' asbestos litigation firm, specializing in all aspects of written
discovery and law and motion practice.
James joined the Law Offices of Frank D. Penney in September of 2002.
James is licensed to practice law in California and in the Eastern District. He is also a member of the California State Bar’s Litigation Section.
His areas of practice include wrongful death and personal injury resulting from a variety of causes, including automobiles,
motorcycles, bicycles, buses, semi-trucks, trains, boats, slip/trip and falls, defective products, construction accidents,
and animal bites. Like Frank, James is a litigator who handles all aspects of litigation, including depositions,
arbitrations, mediations, expert witness preparation, and trial.
In his spare time, James enjoys playing golf, basketball, camping and the occasional hiking expedition.
